The team at Green Fox Events is gearing up for this year’s wedding season, so we have been reminiscing about our fabulous weddings from last year. One that stands out is Sasha + Channa’s. This stylish, fun and unique celebration was also selected by Wedding Planner Magazine as a “Best Real Wedding of 2015.”
This wedding was extra special for Green Fox Events because this is a local couple we know and work with. Channa, the groom, is a local DJ and music professional and beautiful bride, Sasha, works for one of our favorite caterers.
The first time we met with them they said, “We want to have a wedding but more importantly we want to throw an awesome party for our guests and create an experience they will never forget!” We were so intrigued by their overall vision for their special day — and we couldn’t wait to get started!
Their wedding took place at the stately Victory Lodge in June Lake, California. Perched on the hills overlooking Gull Lake with amazing mountain views, it is one of the largest log home structures ever built in the Eastern Sierra and is a spectacular wedding venue inside and out.
The home is filled with one-of-a-kind antiques from all over the world, multiple wooden bars, vintage casino games, vaulted ceilings with massive log beams, and even an old-west saloon (complete with swinging doors!) downstairs.
For this 1920s, speakeasy themed wedding, the goal was to create a truly memorable occasion for Sasha, Channa and their guests. We wanted them to walk in the door and feel like they had traveled back in time to the Gatsby era.
Flapper girls greeted guests with vintage-inspired craft cocktails such as French 75, Sazerac, Bee’s Knees and Manhattans.
The bride and groom are foodies so delicious eats were a must. Servers offered an array of small bites for the guests to enjoy before the ceremony including artisan European cheeses and cured meats and even oysters.
Channa (the groom) is Sri Lankan so many cultural traditions were incorporated into the wedding ceremony.
To add to the overall atmosphere, we had authentic jazz-age music playing, casino tables with dealers set up around the venue, “cigarette” girls strolling around with their wares, Cuban cigar rollers and Roaring Twenties performers.
We filled the venue with beautiful ostrich feather centerpieces dripping with pearls in large gold trumpet vases, created cozy lounge areas with vintage furniture and incorporated beautiful specialty linens using their color palette.
Guests raved about the “fun party that also had a wedding thrown in.” Sasha + Channa, mission accomplished!
